The Boy Scouts Have Lost Their Way May 28, 2018
One of the traditional hall marks of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) was its work to instill strong moral values in teen-aged boys. This was evidenced in the Scout motto: “On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the scout law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.” The BSA has slid far from that noble cause. The group declared that it is now “genderless.” It dropped the word “boy” from its name because it now accepts people who “identify” as gay and lesbian, as well as girls, into its ranks. Even worse, the Scouts declared that at its 2019 World Jamboree, it will mandate that condoms be made available to “all participants.” This, of course, includes the primary participants—teen-aged children. What message is the Scouts sending to children when: a) it accepts girls into its organization, and then b) actively provides condoms to all participants at its camping activities? Certainly the Scouts are not living up to its own motto, i.e., doing its duty to God and keeping itself morally straight.
