America is on a Disastrous Collision Course

America is on a Disastrous Collision Course   May 27, 2018

Between the economic realities of Leftist give-away programs and America’s embrace of a culture of death, we are facing potential catastrophic economic consequences. For example, Leftists continue to concoct government benefit programs they purport to fund with higher taxes. But only people pay taxes, and that’s the rub. America is not having babies. In 2017, the number of live births in the U.S. dropped to a 30-year low. “No big deal,” you say? Consider this: in 1940, after Social Security was in operation for about four years, there were 154 people paying into the system for every 1 person drawing benefits. By 1965, after Congress added medical benefits to the mix, there were just 4 people paying in for every person drawing out. As of 2013, the Social Security Trustees Report shows that just 2.8 people are paying in for every person drawing benefits. That is an unsustainable trend. There is no way benefits can be paid as promised if the population is dying. If you want a reason to stop killing unborn babies that does not involve moral or religious grounds, here’s one: we need them to pay Social Security taxes.

More Evidence of the Culture of Death

More Evidence of the Culture of Death  May 25, 2018

If there was any doubt America’s culture is in decline, this should settle the question. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention just announced that the number of babies born in the U.S. hit a record low in 2017. Only 3.8 million babies were born in 2017, which is the lowest number of births in 30 years. The rate of just 60 births per 1,000 woman of child-bearing age (15 – 44) is the lowest rate since the government began tracking birth rates in 1909. Sociologists say that when the birth rate drops below two births per woman, a society cannot sustain itself. In 2016, America’s birth rate dropped below that number. Between abortions (60+ million since 1973), homosexual relationships, and the simple decision to not have children, our culture is in decline. The only reason America’s population is on the rise is because of immigration, and that comes chiefly from non-Christian nations. In my book Salt and Light, I point out that even Caesar Augustus knew that Rome’s culture could not be sustained if the people were killing themselves. America is embracing a culture of death. Given the recent evidence, the path may be irreversible.

Schools Spiritually Bankrupt

Our Schools Are Spiritually Bankrupt   May 20, 2018

As we clamor for solutions to the unthinkable tragedy of school shootings, we must ask ourselves what is the culture of our schools that incubates such carnage? School shootings didn’t use to happen. Since 1963, both Bible reading and prayer have been scrubbed from public schools. With God removed from schools, why are we surprised that we have godless schools? How did this happen? In 1963, in Abington School District v. Schempp, the Supreme Court declared Bible reading unconstitutional because a historian (not a Bible scholar, psychologist or psychiatrist), declared that reading the New Testament “could be psychologically harmful” to a child. Apparently, the Court never stopped to think what psychological harm might be done to a child if he didn’t read the Bible. Now we see the fruit of that failed policy. The public schools are spiritually bankrupt and our children have no moral compass. We won’t solve the school shooting problem until we address the spiritual void that exists in the hearts of so many of our youth.

America is Embracing a Culture of Death

America is Embracing a  Culture of Death   May 24, 2018

As we wring our hands over the tragedy of school shootings, let us come face-to-face with the reality that America is embracing a culture of death. Our youth are not taught to respect life. Rather, they are taught that life is a “choice;” that they can simply sweep it away if it is somehow unwanted or inconvenient. As a society, we have taken our eyes off the fact that God intends his people to choose life. Deuteronomy 30:15 says “I have set before you life and prosperity, death and adversity.” Then verse 19 says, “Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.” Why do we hide God wishes from the eyes of our children? They are steeped in violence and lawlessness because, among other things, they don’t understand God’s desire that they be secure and prosperous. To address the problems in public schools, perhaps we should think about what needs to be brought into the schools, rather than what should be kept out. And what should be brought in is God’s Word.
